Why Camp -

The American Camping Association recently conducted a study of youth that attended camp. They overwhelmingly reported significant growth in self esteem, independence, leadership, friendship skills, social comfort, peer relationships, adventure and exploration, environmental awareness, values and decision making, and spirituality. In today's world of busyness and distraction, we believe that a camp experience is more important than ever no matter what camp you choose.

Why Lutherwood –

Equipping God’s People, Building community in Christ, Living faith passionately, Celebrating Creation is the mission statement of Camp Lutherwood.

Our camp program is modeled after the ministry of Jesus who was small group and relational based offering hospitality and a place of welcome and renewal. Campers will have the mentorship of Christian staff, the fellowship of other Christian youth and community, and to experience a place where God's word is proclaimed and shared in creative and relevant ways.

Thank you for choosing Camp Lutherwood. We know there are endless opportunities for your child's development and your family's resources but rare today is the chance to fully experience God's Love through faith, hope, and encouragement while at camp.

What is a Typical Day at Camp Like?

Waking up in the morning at Camp Lutherwood is one of the best things in the entire world. We start the day with Words from the Well, our morning devotion time that gives a kick start to the new day that God has created. The sun shines and the birds chirp and the smells from the kitchen all get our senses plugged into the wonders of God. Breakfast is everyone's time to recap their last nights sleep out and the crazy adventures during All Camp Game the night before. There is also lots of talk about the day's activities like volleyball, swimming, creek walks, climbing wall and challenge course. When Morning Worship comes everyone is pumped up to praise God in song and prayer… and it's AWESOME. The day doesn't end there – there's awesome memories created every moment at Camp Lutherwood through the adventures and the experiences that happen in this wonderful place set apart.

Night time is another favorite time at camp. Evening campfires are power packed praise times; times to hear about God's glory in the lives of people that serve him; times to listen to God's call and love for each of His children; times to understand and learn about the Good News of Jesus. The fire crackles, the trees rustle, the stars shine bright and campers glow from the new understanding of who God is and how much God loves them. It's AWESOME!

What makes all of these adventures and experiences fun is the camp community. We call it the Culture of Christ; this place and time to gain knowledge, understanding and experience about our Creator, our Redeemer and our Friend. This culture is one that shows love to everyone, regardless of race, gender, age, brand name clothing, or the ‘right' hair cut. It is one that puts people first; their needs, their feelings, their thoughts, their questions. Our summer staff does a great job listening to and encouraging campers in their faith and life. Campers walk away with a list of new friends; friends that become accountability partners, friends that are active prayer partners, friends with which to share their faith in the good times and in the bad. Campers come away from a week at Camp Lutherwood with a new sense of self; basing their identity in Christ instead of all the other things that our secular society tells us. Campers come away with a passionate desire to live out the Gospel in their daily lives; in their home communities, in their home congregations, in their schools, and in their families.

We invite you and your friends to come experience mornings and evenings and all the in-between times with God at Camp Lutherwood this summer!

God's Peace,
Andrea Scofield, Camp Director
